Jean Childers Few

It is a fitting and appropriate tribute that our newest school, built in 1999, was named for Jean C. Few.  Jean Childers Few was an educator for 27 years. A Jasper native, Mrs. Few graduated from Jasper High School. In 1945, she attended North Texas State Teachers College (North Texas State University) to fulfill a promise to one day be a teacher.  She majored in business administration and graduated with a business degree in 1948.  After a year in Hobbs, New Mexico, she returned to Jasper, Texas and spent the next year teaching typing at Jasper High School.  She then took a job with Humble Company in Houston.  It was there that she met and married Paul Few in 1949. They had four children, John, James, William and Paula Few Quick.  They moved to Jasper in 1957.  In 1959, she earned her master's degree and returned to teaching at J. F. Parnell Elementary.  She attained her administrative certification in 1976 and became the assistant principal of Parnell Elementary.  The next year she became principal, the first female principal in the district.

Mrs. Few was honored by the Jasper Chamber of Commerce as Jasper's Outstanding Citizen of the Year for 1983.  She was a faithful and loyal member of First United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees.

Her favorite motto was, "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now.  Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."  And live by that she did.

Jean Childers Few passed away in September of 1985 after a courageous battle with cancer; however, her legacy in the Jasper Independent School District will live for many years.
