Jasper Independent School District has been awarded a transformative $550,137 grant from Greater Texas Foundation (GTF). Distributed over the next three years, this funding will significantly expand adult career pathways offered through the Deep East Texas College & Career Academy (DETCCA), creating more opportunities for adults across the region to access high-demand training and career advancement.

Greater Texas Foundation is a statewide organization committed to increasing postsecondary success for all Texas students, with a special focus on underserved populations. Through strategic grant making, GTF works to remove barriers to higher education and promote pathways that lead to meaningful careers and economic mobility.

DETCCA, a regional career and technical education hub based in Jasper, plays a vital role in preparing both high school students and adults for high-wage, high-demand careers. The academy currently offers training in fields such as healthcare, emergency services, welding, education, and transportation. Its adult programs are designed to equip learners with industry-recognized credentials that lead directly to employment.

With this new grant, DETCCA will expand its adult pathway offerings, enhance training facilities, and provide direct support for learners. This funding will help ensure the long-term sustainability of the programs.

“This grant is a game-changer for our region,” said Nicole Colvin, Director of DETCCA. “It allows us to strengthen the pipeline from training to employment and helps adults in our community gain access to life-changing career opportunities. The long-term impact will be a more skilled workforce and a stronger economy in Deep East Texas.”

This investment by Greater Texas Foundation reflects a shared commitment to building a more inclusive, opportunity-rich future for rural communities like Jasper and beyond.
